Evaluating ImageDesk - Background
Library for the Municipality of Vaxholm, which I am currently working on, is twofold.
I am doing it for my own sake and knowledge because I think my own municipality
lacks a good way to display both its historical analog pictures and even the more
recently taken ones. I also have a background as an IT coordinator at Stockholm City
Museum and served as technical project manager and developer when the City
Museum of Stockholm developed "DigitalaStadsmuseet" between 2009 and 2016.
Stockholm had two purposes in developing that system. First, to make all the
museum's digital images, documents and museum publications available to all
Stockholmers, the local business community, the entire Swedish cultural community
and all other interested parties. Second, it was about streamlining the museum's photo
processes in order to make them more efficient, in order to save as much as possible
of the museums already fragile analog material and Cultural Heritage. I hope I would
be able to inspire Vaxholm to implement an Open Picture Library even with a possibility
to publish documents and other types of relevant information for both locals and all
these tourists thar visit our little town.
All the test images used to evaluate the system, are taken by myself and all has
metadata in English in the Internet-standards of IPTC/XMP. They consist mainly of
architectural images of often well known "Landmarks" that are part of a test series I
have used earlier to evaluate how well different AI models are able to identify and
describe "Landmarks" around the world with the help of AI-driven Image Analyzes.
Some complementary images are also taken from the Vaxholm and Stockholm
archipelagos to exemplify also with more local material. The current metadata texts
are in English due to the fact that I and many others publishing pictures on
the Internet always use image metadata in English because that is the only thing that
works internationally. But in a localized Swedish Vaxholm official Picture Library they
will most certainly be in Swedish.
